A beautifully & deliberately prepared design will be able to convey all the necessary messages to the receiver, most importantly in a sequential manner.
Therefore, it is a must to gather all the necessary basic know-how while one is preparing the artwork.
a) Color Code
Most of the printers in Malaysia are using CMYK color code for printing. Therefore, the artwork must be prepared under the same color code too. Failing which, the impression result will be very much different from your expectation.
b) Software
A lot of times people might use Microsoft Office software to prepare printing artwork. Unfortunately, Microsoft Office is using RGB color code by default. Therefore, there will be color variances when the same is converted to CMYK color code.
The most commonly used software for artwork preparation are Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for which, Adobe Illustrator will be handling every inch of the preparation except photos while Photoshop will be designated for photos editing.
c) Bleeding & Safe Zone
It is essential to add an additional 3mm to 4mm to your intended artwork size while you are preparing the artwork. This additional 3mm to 4mm will serve as buffer for the potential variance during the trimming process. If there is no additional bleeding provided, any trimming variance will result in appearance of white line.
And kindly make sure all the important contents are placed within the safe zone, again normally 3mm to 4mm from the actual trimming size. This will avoid any important information being trimmed or the artwork looks off the alignment.
d) Photos Resolution
The minimum requirement for photo resolution is 300dpi if the photo is intended for printing purposes. Otherwise, the photo will look blur upon printing completion.
e) The Sensitive Gold Color
Gold is one of the most attractive colors as it shines when presented on a computer screen. However, the effect of shinning will not be available on the print product. Therefore, this expectation needs to be managed deliberately. Having said that, you may consider having other finishing to restore the shinning effect, example this could be done by gold hot-stamping or gold foil.
